A new restaurant project on the 700 block of K Street won’t be ready for customers this year. But the waiting game might only last a couple more months.

Trevor Shults, an owner and partner with the project, is opening three separate restaurants in the Ochsner Building near St. Rose of Lima Park. He’s planning a taco-centered venue called El Rey, an Irish pub called Malt & Mash and an unnamed venue that’s still being fine-tuned.

Construction is underway. Shults tentatively plans to open two of the three locations — the taco venue and the Irish pub — in February. Shults has previously said the third business is expected to open in conjunction with the arena in October 2016.

The project is within a block of Golden 1 Center and across the street from the massive 700 K redevelopment project now underway by developers Bay Miry and Ali Youssefi. It covers about 14,000 square feet of commercial space, including patio seating areas. It’s expected to employ more than 100 people.

Shults is at the forefront of a variety of prominent local dining and nightlife venues, including Barwest, Crawdads on the River and Vanguard 1415.

He’s working with a local designer, Four1Five designs, on the three-restaurant project.
